(A) SCOPE:
Furnish a fitting that is mounted outside the manhole structure that serves to overcome wastewater pipeline elevation and approach differences between a manhole base and an elevated pipeline entering the structure. The fitting shall allow for inlet and outlet pipe connections and cleanout/inspection. The fitting shall assist (the design engineer) in reducing H2S emissions, odor, wastewater inflow energy/turbulence in the manhole channel and subsequent erosion/corrosion of the concrete manhole structure.
(B) POLYETHYLENE (PE) OUTSIDE DROP FITTING:
1.0 The fitting shall be one piece rotationally molded.
1.1 The fitting shall allow for watertight pipe connections at both inlet and outlet locations with inlet pipe flexibility up to 45°. The inlet pipe connection shall be either 6” (150mm) or 8” (200mm) dia. The vertical conduit shall be 6” dia.
1.2 The larger opening (cleanout) shall allow for visual inspection and maintenance access.
1.3 The fitting shall be made watertight to the manhole section with a flexible gasket.
(C) MATERIALS:
1.0 Low density polyethylene – LDPE (body)
1.1 Polyisoprene gasket - 50-55 durometer – Lip Seal
(D) INSTALLATION:
1.0 The outside drop shall be contained within a precast concrete assembly mounted on the outside of the manhole structure.
1.1 The cleanout access section shall be inserted through the lip seal gasket which is located within a 12” dia. cored opening in the manhole section.
1.2 Assembly shall be bonded to the manhole section with an epoxy approved by the manufacturer.
1.3 Alternatively it may be fitted to the manhole riser in the manner described above in 1.1 and surrounded by concrete in the field.
1.4 The inlet pipe shall be connected by way of a boot type connector. The vertical conduit shall be a standard pipe bell and gasket connection to the outlet spigot.
